MFT-661 PSYCHOPATHOLOGY AND PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY (3 Credits)
This course provides an integrated examination of the neurobiological, psychological, and systemic factors that influence mental health, co-occurring, and addiction disorders across the lifespan. Students will learn to formulate accurate and culturally responsive diagnoses using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Disorders (DSM-5-TR) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) while considering developmental and contextual variables. Emphasis is placed on understanding the basic principles of neuroscience, the physiological and psychological implications of psychopharmacology, and the collaborative role of the marriage and family therapist as a non-medical professional. Students will explore differential diagnosis, evidenced-based approaches, and ethical coordination of care with medical and psychiatric providers.
MFT-720 ADV MARRIAGE & COUPLES THERAPY (3 Credits)
The study, application, and development of premarital, marital, and couple's theories, diagnosis/assessments, treatment planning, techniques, and interventions from a systemic methodology. Additional focus will include human sexuality and sex therapy, affair work, and other relevant topics when working with premarital, marital, and couples.
MFT-730 ADV FAMILY THERAPY/ASSESS/SKILLS/PRACT (3 Credits)
The study, application, and development of family therapy theories, diagnosis/assessments, treatment planning, techniques, and interventions from a systemic methodology.
MFT-735 COUPLES & SEX THERAPY (3 Credits)
This course examines human sexuality in contemporary society from a biopsychosocial and systemic perspective. Topics include anatomy and physiology of sexual functioning, psychosexual development, reproduction, fertility, and sexual response. Students will explore sexual health, dysfunction, and relational dynamics through the lens of systemic theory, integrating assessment and intervention strategies relevant to marriage and family therapy.
Prerequisite: Take MFT-720;
MFT-774 COUNSELING INTERN I LAB (0 Credits)
Students will complete this lab at the same time as MFT-784. Students' clinical counseling abilities will be evaluated by both self- assessment and supervisory assessment throughout the placement. Students will adhere to the requirements of the current Practicum and Internship Handbook. Students who do not complete at least a total of 200 hours (80 Direct / 120 Indirect) requirement will earn a "No Credit" and will repeat MFT-774 prior to moving to MFT-785. . Registration for this course requires faculty supervisor approval and the submission of the EHS Special Enrollment Form with attached proof of student liability insurance.
MFT-775 COUNSELING INTERN II LAB (0 Credits)
Students will complete this lab at the same time as MFT-785. Students' clinical counseling abilities will be evaluated by both self-assessment and supervisory assessment throughout the placement. Students will adhere to the requirements of the current Practicum and Internship Handbook. Students who do not complete the 600 hours requirement by the end of MFT-775 will earn a "No Credit" and will repeat MFT-775. Registration for this course requires faculty supervisor approval and the submission of the EHS Special Enrollment Form with attached proof of student liability insurance.
MFT-779 INTERNSHIP III LAB (0 Credits)
Students will complete this lab at the same time as MFT-788. Students' clinical counseling abilities will be evaluated by both self-assessment and supervisory assessment throughout the placement. Students will adhere to the requirements of the current Practicum and Internship Handbook. Traditional degree seeking students who do not complete the 300 hours direct hours of MFT requirement by the end of MFT-779 will earn a "No Credit" and will repeat MFT-779.
MFT-784 INTERNSHIP 1: COUNSELING FIELD EXPERIEN (3 Credits)
An extended supervised field experience that provides students the opportunity to practice clinical counseling skills in an established professional counseling setting. Students will have the opportunity to develop competencies in interviewing, clinical assessment, case conceptualization and documentation when working with individuals, couples and marital, family, and/or groups. Students' clinical counseling abilities will be evaluated by both self- assessment and supervisory assessment throughout the placement. Registration for this course requires faculty supervisor approval and the submission of the EHS Special Enrollment Form with attached proof of student liability insurance.

MFT-788 INTERNSHIP III: COUNSELING FIELD EXP (3 Credits)

Students will have the opportunity to develop competencies in interviewing, clinical assessment, case conceptualization and documentation when working with individuals, couples and marital, family, and/or groups. Students' clinical counseling abilities will be evaluated by both self-assessment and supervisory assessment throughout the placement. Students will adhere to the requirements of the current Practicum and Internship Handbook. Registration for this course requires faculty supervisor approval and the submission of the EHS Special Enrollment Form with attached proof of student liability insurance.
